Yong Zhao is an acclaimed author in the United States and ranked the most inspiring educational scholar by the American Enterprise Institute. Currently, Zhao is working in the School of Education at the University of Kansas as a Foundation Distinguished Professor. He is also attached to Melbourne Graduate School of Education of Australia as Professor of Educational Leadership.

Previously, Yong Zhao was the Presidential Chair and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education, College of Education at the University of Oregon, where he served as a professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy and Leadership(EMPL). He has been associated with the International Academy for Education as a reputed fellow.

Yong Zhao has been University Distinguished Professor at the College of Education named Michigan State University till 2010. He worked there as the establishing head of the Centre for Teaching and Technology. He was also the Chief Director of US-China Centre for Research on Educational Excellence and the Confucius Institute.

His writings focus on how to implicate globalization and technology on education. His research includes educational policy, computer gaming and education, diffusion of innovations, teacher adoption of technology, computer-assisted language learning, and mainly, globalization and education.

Zhao has broad global exploration in regards to education. He has talked with governments and educational organizations and spoken on issues related to education in different countries. His ongoing work is centred around planning 21st century schools with regards to globalization and the computerized transformation.

Zhao was born in China. In 1986, he received his B.A. in English Language Education from Sichuan Institute of Foreign Languages in Chongqing. He taught English for six years. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993. After doing PhD in 1996, he joined the faculty at MSU. Prior to MSU, he also worked at Willamette University as the Language Center Coordinator. He also served as a language specialist at Hamilton College.

Zhao has earned many honors and awards, including the National Leadership Award from the Institute for Educational Leadership. His book named ‘World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students’ has been awarded as the Best Education Book by the Society of Professors of Education.
