Thomas Gilovich is the Irene Blecker Rosenfeld Professor of Psychology at Cornell University and codirector of the Cornell Center for Behavioral Economics and Decision Research. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of California and his PhD in Psychology from Stanford University. His research focuses on how people evaluate information in their everyday and professional lives, and how they use that information to draw conclusions, form beliefs, and embarck on courses of action.
He also studies the emotional drivers and emotional consequences of judgments and decisions, with a focus on happiness, gratitude, and regret. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health.
Thomas’s books include How We Know What Isn’t So (1991), Why Smart People Make Big Money Mistakes (1999, with Gary Belsky), Heuristics and Biases: The Psychology of Intuitive Judgment (2002, with Dale Griffin and Daniel Kahneman), Social Psychology (2004, with Dacher Keltner, Serena Chen, and Richard Nisbett), and The Wisest One in the Room: How You Can Profit from Social Psychology’s Most Powerful Insights (with Lee Ross). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
