Speaker Bio

Mo Gawdat is a highly-sought keynote speaker and expert covering such topics as innovation, technology, creativity, sales, future trends, and strategy. He is a best-selling author, consultant, media pundit, and thought-leader who has spoken at many conferences around the world where he gives leaders the skills they need to deal with fast, big changes in society, the workplace, and education.

Mo Gawdat is hired to speak at events and conferences where he can give expertise on important global business affairs. He is a businessman and writer from Egypt. He used to be the head of business at Google X, and he wrote the book Solve for Happy.

Mo has had an impressive 27-year career. He started as a Systems Engineer at IBM Egypt and then moved on to work in sales for the government. Mo joined NCR Abu Dhabi to cover the non-finance sector in the UAE. Then, as Regional Manager of BAT, he got to know the consumer goods business. Throughout seven and a half years, he had different jobs at Microsoft. In his last job there, he was in charge of the Communications Sector in all Emerging Markets around the world.

Mo joined Google in 2007 to help it get its business going in places like India and China. He is very interested in how technology can help people in developing communities become more independent. He has spent many years of his career pursuing this passion. Over six years, Mo started almost half of Google’s businesses worldwide.

In 2013, he moved to Google [X], which is known for being the place where new ideas come from. He was in charge of business strategy, planning, sales, business development, and partnerships. [X] doesn’t try to make small changes to how the world works. Instead, it tries to come up with new technologies that will completely change the way things are and make a radical improvement of 10X.

This leads to ideas that sound like something out of science fiction, like Project Loon, which wants to use high-altitude balloons to bring cheap internet access to the 5 billion people who live on every square inch of our planet and Project Makani, which wants to change the way wind energy is made by using autonomous carbon fiber kites, Self-driving cars, Google Life Sciences, and many more.

Under Mo’s direction, the business team has developed new business models similar to the disruptive technologies that [X] makes. They have also made deep partnerships and global deals that have helped [X] grow and make products that work in the real world.

Mo had a career, but he also started and ran more than 20 businesses in fields like health and fitness, food and drink, and real estate. He was on the boards of technology, health and fitness, and consumer goods companies, as well as several government technologies and innovation boards in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He advises tens of new businesses at any given time.

“Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Way to Joy” was written by Mo Gawdat (2017). Through his 12 years of research on happiness, he made an algorithm and a well-engineered model that can be used repeatedly to reach a state of happiness that lasts no matter what happens. Mo’s plan for happiness worked very well. And in 2014, Mo’s faith was put to the ultimate test when his son Ali died because of a simple surgery mistake that could have been avoided. Solve for Happy is the core of Mo’s personal “moonshot” mission, which is to spread his message of happiness to one billion people around the world (#onebillionhappy).

Mo started his popular podcast, Slo-Mo: A Podcast with Mo Gawdat, in 2020. In it, he talks to ordinary people and learns about their interesting lives.

Scary Smart, his new book, came out on September 30, 2021.
