Michael Gelb, along with Prof. Stephen Hawking, Bill Gates, Garry Kasparov, and Gene Roddenberry, was named “Brain of the Year” by the Brain Trust Charity in 1999. Michael was given a Batten Fellowship by the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia in 2003. Michael and Professor James Clawson work together to run the well-known Leading Innovation Seminar at Darden. Michael Gelb also worked at the Conscious Capitalism Institute as the Director of Creativity and Innovation Leadership from 2008 to 2012.

Gelb, who used to be a professional juggler and has played with the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, was the first person to think of using juggling training to help people work together and learn quickly. The 5 Keys to High Performance: Juggling Your Way to Success is the name of his book. Gelb has a fifth-degree black belt in the Japanese martial art of aikido.

He wrote the book Samurai Chess: Mastering Strategic Thinking Through the Martial Art of the Mind with International Grandmaster Raymond Keene. Michael Gelb is also the author of Body Learning: An Introduction to the Alexander Technique. Wine drinking for inspired thinking: uncork your creative juices is the title of a book published in 2010 and details an innovative, original, and genuinely enjoyable approach to team building.
