Infancy
Mark Alma Elaine (née Donnelly), a nurse’s aide and bank clerk, gave birth to Robert Michael Wahlberg on June 5, 1971, in the Dorchester district of Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Donald Edward Wahlberg, was a delivery driver. In addition to actors Robert and Donnie, he has eight siblings. His mother is of Irish, English, and French-Canadian origin, while his father is of Swedish and Irish descent. Wahlberg has a paternal lineage with famed American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne.
On Newbury Street in Boston, Wahlberg attended Copley Square High School, where he was reared a Catholic. While still a teenager, Wahlberg began abusing cocaine and other narcotics. His role in two different episodes of harassing African-American youngsters was brought to court when he was 15 years old (the first when he threw rocks and shouted racial epithets at a group of black school children, and the second when he attacked a Vietnamese man named Hoa “Johnny” Trinh, leaving him permanently blind in one eye). After knocking down a middle-aged Vietnamese guy named Thanh Lam with a thick wooden stick when he was 16, Mark Wahlberg called him a “Vietnam fucking shit” and beat him senseless. In the aftermath of Lam’s coma, he was hospitalized for months.
When asked about the event, Wahlberg said that he didn’t think ethnicity had a role in it “It is unlikely that guy was Vietnamese at all. Vietnamese-American? I’m quite sure. He was simply a person strolling down the street doing what he had to do.” Wahlberg was sentenced to two years in jail in Boston’s Deer Island House of Correction, where he spent 45 days of a two-year term for attempted murder and assault. He’s said that he’s “never forgiven” himself for what happened.
As soon as Wahlberg was released from jail, he began abusing drugs again, and he was imprisoned for a number of other charges such as domestic violence, drug trafficking, and drunk driving, among others. Many of his crimes were committed when he was high on crack cocaine.

Sexually filthy lyrics of the song sparked uproar.
Wahlberg subsequently admitted that recording the song had been a mistake, stating things like, “My first impression was that we were simply producing a prank record and no one would take it seriously. I didn’t expect people to interpret it as sexist.”
