He is a best-selling author, consultant, media pundit, and thought-leader who has spoken at many conferences around the world where he gives leaders the skills they need to deal with fast, big changes in society, the workplace, and schools.

Jonathan Zittrain is hired to speak at events and conferences where he can give expertise on important global business affairs. He is the George Bemis Professor of International Law and teaches Internet law at Harvard Law School. He was born on December 24, 1969. He also teaches at the Harvard Kennedy School, the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, where he is director and co-founder. Before this, Zittrain was a Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the University of Oxford’s Oxford Internet Institute. He also taught law at Stanford University and New York University as a visiting professor. Also, he is the co-editor of Access Denied (MIT Press, 2008), Access Controlled (MIT Press, 2010), and Access Contested. He published a book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It (MIT Press, 2011)

Zittrain works on intellectual property, content control and filtering, and computer security, all areas where law and politics meet the Internet. He started a company at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society that makes education materials. With his help, Wendy Seltzer made Chilling Effects in 2001 to protect people from legal problems caused by online legal behavior. He was also the vice dean of Harvard’s library and information resources.

Jonathan Zittrain teaches computer science at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He is also the Director of the Harvard Law School Library and a co-founder of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. He is also the George Bemis Professor of International Law at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the Harvard Law School.

His research interests include the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence, disputes over who owns the digital property, the regulation of cryptography, new privacy frameworks for people who use online services, the roles of intermediaries in the architecture of the Internet, and the use of technologies in education that is effective and doesn’t get in the way.

Zittrain made the Assembly Program a three-track fellowship program that brings together groups of professionals, researchers, and students to find solutions to hard problems in technology policy, such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (A.I.), and online disinformation. He also supported the Caselaw Access Project, which has made it easier for people to find U.S. case law.

Zittrain is on the board of directors of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. He has been on the Board of Advisors for Scientific American and Trustees for the Internet Society. The World Economic Forum has also named him a Young Global Leader.

During his time as Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at the Federal Communications Commission, he was in charge of the Open Internet Advisory Committee. In his book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It, he predicted that general-purpose client computers would disappear and that new gatekeeper would take their place. It is sold by Yale University Press and Penguin U.K.

Zittrain was the head of the U.S. Federal Communication Commission’s Open Internet Advisory Committee and a respected advisor to governments and organizations. He was once a member of the Scientific American Board of Advisors and a Trustee of the Internet Society (ISOC). He has been a faculty fellow at the World Economic Forum for more than ten years. He was named a Young Global Leader by the forum, and he is now the chairman of the Global Agenda Council on the future of the Internet. Zittrain was chosen to be a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2017. Zittrain talked to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, in February 2019 as part of an undergraduate class at Harvard.
