John Battelle has worked as a journalist, teacher, and businessman. He started many well-known business and technology magazines, like Wired and Industry Standard. He has been praised for his business ideas because they have been successful, and in 2005 he decided to focus on analyzing search engines, especially Google.

Battelle’s research led to the book The Search: The Inside Story of How Google and Its Rivals Changed Everything. This book looks at the history, inner workings, and possible future uses of search engines, as well as the huge initial public offering of Google, a Wall Street landmark. As part of his research, the author talked to 350 people in the high-tech business. These people included Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of Google, as well as the founders and leaders of many of Google’s competitors. In The Search, Battelle looks at the differences between the first search engines and Google.

He also looks at Google’s new ways of doing things and its meteoric rise since it started. Google is so well-known and popular that the word “google” has become a verb that means to look for information about something.
