Gary Miliefsky has been very interested in information security, and he started Cyber Defense Magazine and is still in charge of it. Miliefsky is a founding member of the National Information Security Committee, the United States Department of Homeland Security, and the MITRE OVAL advisory group, which oversees the CVE Program.

He worked with the Center for the Study of Counter-Terrorism and Cyber Crime at Norwich University to help the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security write The National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace. Gary has created and/or built businesses and technologies that Hexis Cyber, WatchGuard, IBM, Computer Associates, and BlackBox Corporation have licensed from him.
