Speaker Bio

Frans Johansson is a highly-sought business keynote speaker who covers such topics as innovation, leadership, change management, and diversity. He is a writer, entrepreneur, and public speaker from Sweden and the United States. He has spoken at corporate events and conferences on diversity, innovation, and creativity, all of which she is considered an authority. The Black Enterprise, Diversity Executive, Anderson Cooper 360°, and CNBC’s The Business of Innovation featured him.

His book, The Medici Effect, was released by Harvard Business School Press in 2004 and is titled “Breakthrough Ideas at the Intersection of Concepts and Cultures.”. It was one of Amazon’s top ten books of the year while also being nominated as one of BusinessWeek’s “Best Books on Innovation”.

Author Clayton Christensen, a Harvard Business School professor and author of The Medici Effect, described the book as “one of the most perceptive books on innovation I have ever read.” The “Medici Effect,” a phrase currently used across a wide range of businesses, has roots in this theory. It examines how artists, sculptors, poets, financiers, scientists, philosophers, and builders have affected the course of history’s most innovative periods. We believe that new ideas are generated due to cross-pollination between different fields of study.

Frans Johansson was raised in the Swedish town of Lerum. Swedish ancestry runs throughout the family, as does African American/Cherokee heritage. He enjoyed fishing and role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons as a child. After graduating from Brown University with a degree in Environmental Science, Johansson went to Harvard Business School, where he received a Master of Business Administration. The Catalyst, a science-inspired publication that publishes art, literature, and poetry, was started by Johansson while she was a student at Brown.

Johansson also created two businesses after he graduated from Harvard. Dola Health Systems LLC, a manufacturer and distributor of healthcare equipment was the first. When it comes to handheld pain evaluation, they’re most recognized for their Painometer. He is also the founder of Inka, a website he helped create.

In 2012, Penguin Portfolio published Johansson’s second book, The Click Moment: Seizing Opportunity in an Unpredictable World.

Debunking the 10,000-hour rule and why it shouldn’t apply to business, the book examines how luck and fate play an important role in the success and how to embrace opportunities.

Public speaking appearances on business and diversity have resulted from Johansson’s thoughts and values. Among the media outlets he has appeared on are Anderson Cooper 360°, Diversity Executive, Anderson Cooper 360°, and CNBC’s The Business of Innovation. Medici Group, a strategic consulting firm founded and led by Johansson, is another business venture of his.

A “click moment” of opportunity arose out of nowhere. To demonstrate how to generate more “click moments,” cast more high-potential wagers, open ourselves up to chance contacts, and harness the complex forces of success that follow, Johansson draws on experiences from across history.

An example of the Medici Effect “One of the best books I’ve ever read on innovation management. It is an enduring theory of creativity that should lead innovators in all fields in asserting that breakthrough principles of creativity occur at innovative intersections.” The Medici Effect, a timeless classic with a foreword by Harvard Business School professor Teresa Amabile, is a new preface.
