While at Campbell Soup, Conant held the positions of CEO and President. With a steep drop in its market value, Conant was the company’s 11th chief executive in its 141-year history. To succeed, Conant restructured the global leadership team, lowered expenses, and invested in Campbell’s goods, marketing programs, innovation pipeline, and infrastructure to drastically alter the international leadership team. That meant that shareholders received returns in the top ranks of the global food business.
Campbell’s relentless pursuit of world-class levels of employee engagement made this success possible. A decade under Conant’s leadership saw a dramatic improvement in employee engagement, ranked among the lowest in Fortune 500. Campbell has received numerous accolades for its success, including the Gallup Organization’s “Great Workplace Award” for four years and the Catalyst Award for assisting women in developing their careers in 2010. Social responsibility and ethical leadership were two areas in which the corporation excelled under his leadership.
As a veteran of General Mills, Kraft, and Nabisco, Conant brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position at Campbell. In 1976, he began working at General Mills as a marketing representative. After ten years, he transitioned to Kraft, where he worked in marketing and strategy at the highest levels. When he left Nabisco Foods for Campbell, he led his team to five years of double-digit earnings growth and a $3 billion improvement in the marketplace performance.
At Northwestern University, Conant obtained both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
