Speaker Bio

Don Hutson is a successful salesperson, author, and public speaker. He was the first president of the Memphis Society of Entrepreneurs, as well as the former President of the National Speakers Association. He is the CEO of U.S. Learning, a company that provides training to businesses around the nation. Local clients include FedEx, International Paper, and Medtronic.

In Whitehaven, where he grew up, he worked as a salesperson for men’s apparel after school and on weekends. His father was a real estate agent at the time. Hutson asserts that he taught his child that there was an infinite amount of potential in sales. He exerted himself to his absolute maximum.

As a result, Hutson’s father offered him a real estate agent position. Hutson was a University of Memphis student who desired a career in sales. To appear more mature, he donned a suit and tie. In his first position following graduation, he was the top seller for a national training firm. He gave more than 1,500 speeches to small groups, enhancing his sales and presentation skills. In 1969, he founded his own company and renamed it U.S. Learning. As the organisation grew, he conducted seminars across the nation to share his expertise. He thereafter became a sought-after public speaker.

Don Hutson published the book, The One Minute Negotiator: Simple Steps to Better Agreements, which was published in the New York Times, Wall Street Journals, and USA Today, and is one of Hutson’s 14 best-selling books.

Each year, his organization U.S. Learning teaches 26,000 students about entrepreneurship, job preparedness, and financial literacy. “The charity relies solely on individual and corporate donations and fundraising,” said Larry Colbert, the organization’s chief executive officer. Hutson previously served on the board of directors.

Hutson’s many supporters include the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Boys & Girls Club, University of Memphis Society of the Shield, and Memphis Food Bank. He serves on the board of Arise2Read, a non-profit organisation that promotes early childhood literacy. He has served as both a board member and prior chairman of this organisation, which sends surgeons to other nations to operate on infants with heart defects. Additionally, he is an active member of the Danny Thomas St. Jude Society. A child may have discovered a cancer cure in 30 years.

Mentors shaped Hutson’s perspective on charitable giving through time. In his twenties, he met Cavett Roberts, NSA founder and speaker. Hutson describes the man as a “lovely person.” He said, “Don’t keep score; simply serve people.” Hutson was instilled with the belief that “you cannot out-give yourself.” If you come from a wealthy background as opposed to a poor background, you will be more willing to give, and you will receive far more of what you’ve paid for.”
