A multi-award-winning diversity and inclusion practitioner, Chevara Orrin has worked in the fields of business and social entrepreneurship. She is a published author, social justice activist, independent filmmaker, and dynamic public speaker. Her work and passion are located at the crossroads of gender parity, racial equity, LGBTQ equality, and arts activism, among other things.

Orrin is a principal strategist for diversity and inclusion at The Winters Group, Inc., where he specializes in developing and facilitating leadership and employee learning sessions to improve the work agility and work climate, developing comprehensive organizational strategies, raising D&I brand awareness in the marketplace, and developing Business Resource Groups (BRG).

“Why is Washington [still] Burning?” is the film in which she is now starring, a documentary that highlights the efforts of a group of 100 white and Jewish activists in support of Black protesters during the racial upheavals in Washington, D.C., just days after the killing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Aspects of white Americans’ current role in the struggle for racial justice are explored in the film.

She is known for having formed and co-created They Are Straight Allies, a national advertising campaign to support equality but also move toward the passage of inclusive policies to protect the LGBTQ community, as well as #WhiteAndWoke, an initiative to spread awareness about racial injustice and promote equity through intentional action.

In the successful Allies campaign, prominent people such as feminist icon Gloria Steinem, Olympic gold medalist, civil rights lawyer Nancy Hogshead-Makar, cultural and faith leaders, as well as superstars from the business world, including the CEOs of Florida Blue and SunTrust Bank, have all participated. He is the executive producer of the independent documentary “The Story of Denise,” which tackles the transgender journey and the acceptance of one’s family members.

As a conference presenter, keynote speaker, and facilitator, she has worked with clients such as Facebook, and ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Disney, Walgreens, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Amazon, Activision Blizzard, Microsoft, Samsung, and Coca-Cola among others.

Orrin is an active campaigner for the abolition of sexual abuse against women and girls. She started WhiteSpace SafeSpace, a weekly support group, and forum for incest survivors, which she continues to run today. A creative leader with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of roles spanning from senior management in the art and higher education sector to consulting with Fortune 500 companies.

Chevara is a contributing author to the Lambda Literary Award-winning anthology “love WITH accountability” (AK Press, fall 2019), which is a collection of writings that examines how accountability is a strong and necessary form of love that is required to address child sexual abuse in the world today. She is also a co-founder of The Freedom Collection, a wearable art apparel brand that pays homage to the Freedom Riders of the 1960s and is available for purchase online.

A leader, advocate, and ally for the LGBTQ community, Chevara has been recognized by the White House and the Human Rights Campaign. She has been featured in numerous publications, including Washington Post, The New York Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tikkun Magazine, The Feminist Wire, and CNN.
