Bart McDonough is the Founder and Chief executive of Agio, a hybrid managed IT and cyber services provider that is anything but your typical managed services provider. The financial services industry, notably hedge funds, private equity, and asset managers, is Agio’s bread and butter, followed by the health care sector and the payments businesses, which are all closely related (i.e. PCI).
McDonough launched Agio from a position of extensive institutional investing knowledge, having accumulated more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, company growth, and information technology management. Assessment, definition, advocacy, and driving the adoption of risk management strategies, controls, and models that enable organizations to advance cyber threat resiliency while successfully complying with evolving regulatory requirements and behavioral transformations are some of his core strengths. That’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it? So is he – in the most positive way conceivable.
By leveraging his experience, McDonough and his team of more than 250 people have developed cyber and managed IT products that are customized to protect organizations’ most valuable assets: their money and their good name. These teams do their tasks while having a great time doing what they do best every day with the people that matter to their success. There is no other place like Agio for a person to learn about their culture. Once you’re in, you’re in for good, and the sense of belonging is overwhelming.
McDonough presently serves on the boards of directors for two cybersecurity companies, TwoSense, AI and Magnus Cloud, and has just published his first book, Cyber Smart: Five Habits to Protect Your Family, Money, and Identity from Cyber Criminals, which will be released in early 2019.
In his previous roles, he held positions at SAC Capital Advisors, BlueStone Capital Partners, OptiMark Technologies, Sanford Bernstein, and American Express, among other companies. His undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Oklahoma, and he obtained his master’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
Bart’s strongest asset with an audience is his ability to transform something intangible into something tangible. The author demonstrates how providing expression to an intangible concept such as cybersecurity makes action possible, sparks momentum, and finally brings about the necessary transformation. Bart discusses the best procedures for shutting down the most prevalent and dangerous cyber-threats that exist today – and in the future.
His extensive institutional investment experience stems from evaluating, defining, advocating for, and facilitating the acceptance of risk management processes, controls, and models across a variety of industries. He distinguishes between the public cloud and the private cloud, and he contributes to the definition of the cloud security threats associated with each.
He displays the inadequacies of password protection and inquires as to your level of caution in protecting your information. With over 20 years of experience in information technology and behavioral sciences, Bart uses his extensive knowledge of both technologies and behavioral tendencies to assist firms in developing cybersecurity resiliency and complying with regulatory standards.
In his previous roles, Bart served at SAC Capital Advisors, BlueStone Capital Partners, OptiMark Technologies, Sanford Bernstein, and American Express before launching Agio in 2007. In January 2019, he published a book, Cyber Smart: Five Habits to Protect Your Family, Money, and Identity from Cyber Criminals, which was well received. USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, Buzz Feed News, and Investment News have all featured him and his company. He has also been featured on the Forbes website.
