Joseph Pine is a highly-sought keynote speaker and expert covering such topics as business, management, leadership, strategy, and technology. He is a best-selling author, consultant, media pundit, and thought-leader who has spoken at many conferences around the world where he gives leaders the skills they need to deal with fast, big changes in society, the workplace, and education.
Joseph Pine is hired to speak at events and conferences where he can give expertise on important global business affairs. He is a well-known keynote speaker, author, and managerial advisor to both Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. He has worked with both. He is the co-founder of Strategic Horizons LLP, a company that helps businesses think up and design new ways to add value to their products and services.
In 1999, Mr. Pine and his partner, James H. Gilmore, wrote the best-selling book The Encounter Economy: Work Is Theater and Every Business Is a Stage, which shows that today, businesses need to offer more than just goods and services. Instead, they need to offer memorable events that uniquely connect with each customer.
The Experience Economy has been translated into fifteen languages and named one of the best business books of all time by 800ceoread. It has also been named one of the 100 best business books ever written. A paperback version of The Experience Economy that was updated in 2011 is being republished in December 2019 with new hardcover and a new Preview that includes new material about customer time, attention, and money. These ideas will be brought forward to the next generation of readers.
He also wrote a book with Kim Korn called Infinite Possibility: Creating Value For Customers on the Digital Frontier in 2011. This book talks about how to use digital technology to stage life experiences that combine the real and the virtual. This book was written in 2011. A new framework called the Multiverse is at its heart. It shows how digital technology turns each of these dimensions on its head to create worlds, first in our fantasy and then in our real-world experience.
It was in 2007 that Mr. Pine and Mr. Gilmore wrote the book Authenticity: What Customers Want, which says people don’t want the fake from the phony anymore. They want the real from those who are real. During a cover story in TIME magazine, it was named one of “10 ideas that are changing the world.”
His first book, Mass Customization: The New Frontier in Business Competition, won an award. It talks about how companies are moving from mass-producing standardized goods and services to mass customizing goods and services that efficiently meet the needs and wants of individual customers. If you read it in 1993, The Financial Times said it was one of the best business books.
Mr. Pine works with a lot of businesses around the world to help them embrace the suggestions and frameworks he writes about, come up with ideas for how to make more money, and see those ideas come to fruition. During his speaking and teaching, Mr. Pine has spoken at events like the World Economic Forum, TEDx, and the Consumer Electronics Show, among other places.
As a guest professor at the MIT Design Lab and at the University of Amsterdam, he has been able to learn a lot. When he’s not teaching in Columbia University’s Technology Management program or at Penn State University, he has also taught at Duke Corporate Education, Duke University, the University of Minnesota, and UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management.
