Speaker Bio

Ari Wallach, founder as well as executive director of Long path Labs, is an applied futurist and social system design strategist who assists organisations and individuals in discovering and leveraging a new version of “why” for their work that leads to deep and meaningful motivating factors for all stakeholders – staff, customers, communities, and future generations Wallach helps leaders develop strategic decision-making skills that go beyond the quarterly and annual review to ensure long-term impact by advocating for what he calls a “transgenerational ethic,” which is a big picture knowledge of the place in the world and how they can contribute to the future generations.

“Transgenerational thinking, which is also transgenerational ethics, allows you to broaden your perspective on the world’s most pressing issues and the role you can play in addressing them,” says Wallach, a former adjunct associate professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs who now works as an independent consultant. The phrase “Long path” is a verb: “to Long Path” means to deliberately oppose the propensity for short-termism by making choices today that will result in far-future realities in which humans, ecosystems, and the planet prosper.”

Ari Wallach challenges the popular idea that “the future” is only a technologically driven endeavour that will take place at some indeterminate moment in the future. By delving into the foundation of civilizational potential throughout history, he demonstrates that the future is already showing itself and that it is very much human in nature.

Wallach’s original Long Path column in Wired magazine, which discussed the necessity to transcend beyond short-termism to secure societal progress, propelled him to the forefront of dialogues in the sustainability, urban planning, and long-range forecasting fields. Wallach is an associate instructor at Columbia University, where he teaches the impact of technology on the development of intertemporally resilient public policy and the establishment of democratic institutions.

The long path will be launched as a network action tank in the summer of 2017 to assist individuals and organisational leaders in making key decisions that consider the long-term consequences of their actions and decisions.

“This Very to Plan for the (Very) Long Term,” in which Wallach illustrates his ideas with clarity and passion, has had more than 2.6 million views since it was first broadcast in November 2013. As the author of “Long path: To become the Great Ancestor the Future Needs,” published by HarperCollins, and as the host of the new PBS television series “A Brief History of the Future,” he will expand on the issues mentioned in the discussion. “History of the Future,”

Wallach’s professional experience includes employment in the media, government, and a variety of creative industries. All of Wallach’s clients were based in Washington, DC, including the Democratic National, Clinton/Gore 96, and the US Institute of Peace.

Wallach is a seasoned strategist who has worked with a varied range of clients, including CNN, Volkswagen, Sephora, the United States State Department, the United Nations Refugee Agency, and Deepak Chopra, among others. “The Great Schlep with Sarah Silverman,” a presidential effort co-founded with Sarah Silverman in 2008, attracted more than 350 million global media appearances and sparked a national dialogue about racism, faith, and democracy through the release of the film of the same name.
