Distinguished executive leadership educator Dr. Anne Harbison is well-known for her work with a few of the world’s most prestigious corporations and thought leaders.
Dr. Harbison has served with some of the world’s most prestigious businesses and thought leaders, including IBM, Coca-Cola, HP, the United States Navy, and Disney, during the course of her more than 50-year career.
A featured speaker at many of the world’s most prestigious organisations, including the American Management Association, the Headliners Club of New York, the National Speaking Association, and the United States Department of State, she has developed cutting-edge training programmes on leadership and organisational change.
She has spent the last two decades educating, researching, and consulting with companies on how to flourish during periods of significant upheaval and transition. Given the current state of the world, Anne is passionate about spreading her message of how people and organisations can learn from, and even benefit from, times of crisis, as she describes in her new book, Never Waste a Crisis, which will be released later this year.
Her career in healthcare brand marketing began at Procter & Gamble, where she worked for a number of years before moving on to management consulting, where she specialised in organisational change and learning.
Anne worked as a Principal Strategic Consultant in Gallup’s executive leadership practice, where she advised clients in the health care, manufacturing, retail, and government sectors, both domestically and internationally. She obtained her doctorate from Harvard University, where she conducted research and taught courses on best practices for leadership effectiveness in order to achieve success in her career.
With over a decade of experience, she has addressed audiences throughout the world, including as a featured speaker at The Brooking Institute, the Academy of Management, the Association of Talent & Development, and Fortune 100 firms such as Best Buy, Cargill, Toyota, and Boeing.
She believes that teamwork has never been more important than it is now, whether you are in the same room as one another or communicating via video conference from across the world. Teams must help to support one another, optimise their collective abilities, and put plans into action. What is the most frequently encountered problem? Instead of being a team, the majority of them are simply groups of people who just happen to report to the same person or work on the same project together. Working together to develop a common sense of identity, purpose, and dedication takes time and effort – but the results are apparent.
Dr. Harbison demonstrates how to transition from a “me” to a “we” reality through the use of her popular “Leadership Team Accelerator” curriculum. Dr. Harbison’s book is jam-packed with dozens of case studies and practical solutions from cross-functional teams all over the world, and it will motivate you to go “all in” with your coworkers to achieve remarkable outcomes.
In her own words, “Getting things done is important. Yes, without a doubt! It is critical to execute with quality, to be sure. What they need to “execute” at moments of crisis and complexity, on the other hand, shifts in response to new data, insights, and requirements. Dexterity is actually more important than drive in this situation. If we’re too preoccupied with rushing down a highway to stop for gas or give directions, where exactly are going? It’s possible that we’re on a route that leads nowhere.”
“When it comes to those who have inherent skill and years of experience, the mindset may be particularly poisonous. Because of the values that underpin an Achiever’s inner character, advice to “loosen up” are hollow and unproductive. Starting at a young age, people are taught that the achievements make people deserving of praise. Challenging this presumption should be done with kindness and consideration.”
