Speaker Bio

Ian Bremmer is a highly-sought visionary keynote speaker and expert covering such topics as globalization, risk, politics, economics, and international relations. He is a best-selling author, consultant, media pundit, and thought-leader who has spoken at many conferences around the world where he gives leaders the skills they need to deal with fast, big changes in society, the workplace, and schools.

Ian Bremmer was born on November 12, 1969, and is 50 years old. St. Dominic Savio High School was where he finished high school. At Tulane University, he got his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. Regarding his life, Ian Bremmer was the son of the late Army vet Arthur Bremmer, who died when he was 46.

Ian is an American political scientist and author who writes about how dangerous international politics can be. He is the CEO and founder of Eurasia Group, which has its headquarters in New York City and is the world’s leading political-risk advisory and research firm.

He is also one of the people who started GZERO Media, a digital media company whose goal is to cover global issues in a way that is smart and interesting. Event organizers book Ian Bremmer to speak at events where he can give his expertise on important global issues.

With only $25,000, Bremmer started Eurasia Group in 1998. The company is the world’s top political risk research and advice firm. It has offices in New York, Washington, and London, as well as a network of experts and resources in 90 countries. Eurasia Group’s research and knowledge show that changes in politics and national security affect global markets and investment environments.

Bremmer made the first global political risk index for Wall Street (GPRI). He speaks in public often and was the first chairman of the Global Agenda Council on Geopolitical Risk of the World Economic Forum. Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations, Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations, and Every Nation for Itself: The End of the Free Market Winners and Losers in a G-Zero World are all national bestsellers.

Bremmer writes for Reuters.com and the Financial Times’ A-List. He has written many articles for publications like The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Newsweek, Harvard Business Review, and Foreign Affairs. He often talks on CNBC, Fox News Channel, Bloomberg Television, National Public Radio, and the BBC.

Ian Bremmer says that “state capitalism” is a system where the government controls markets mainly for political reasons. In his book The End of the Free Market: Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations, published in 2010, Bremmer shows China as the driving force behind the rise of state capitalism as a threat to the free market economies of the advanced economies, particularly after the financial crisis.

In 1994, after getting his Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University, Bremmer became the Hoover Institution’s youngest national fellow. He is a professor of global research at New York University. He has also guided at Columbia University, the EastWest Institute, and the World Policy Institute.

In 2007, the Young Global Leaders award was given to Bremmer by the World Economic Forum. His analysis is mostly about developing markets and the big picture of global politics. He says that “emerging markets” are “countries where politics have at least as much of an effect on market results as economics.”
