Greg Brandeau is a highly-sought business keynote speaker and expert who covers such topics as leadership, innovation, management, and technology where his presentations take inspiration from over two decades in Silicon Valley, including executive positions at Pixar, Disney, and NeXT.
Greg Brandeau is a founding member at Paradox Techniques, founder of Collective Brilliant: The Art and Practice of Leadership Innovation, former Founder And Ceo for The Walt Disney Studios, and Vice President for Pixar Animation Studios. Greg is an established technology leader with more than 25 years of experience in Silicon Valley.
Greg Brandeau worked as Steve Jobs early in his career at NeXT Inc., where he worked as Director of Operations. NeXT specialized in developing powerful processors for business and education and was ultimately acquired by Apple Computer. Later, Greg joined Pixar, another firm controlled by Jobs. Greg was initially the Vice President of Computer Operations.
Greg Brandeau became SVP of Technology in 2004. In his position, he oversaw the creation of cutting technologies that launched Pixar as an entertainment powerhouse, responsible for a number of the highest-grossing movies of all time and Academy Award winners. Greg supervised the development of the digital “pens and pencils” used by Pixar’s animators to create and improve the company’s complicated network, financial markets, computation, and backup support. Greg became EVP and CTO of Disney Studios following the $7.4 billion acquisition of Pixar by Disney.
He was responsible for developing and improving technology, technologies and initiatives that support film, music, and theatrical operations. Greg was responsible for establishing revolutionary technology and execution strategies, as well as procuring and implementing investments in technology that supported the Studio’s growth and visual content creation.
Greg is on the Board of Directors of Glu Mobile, the Advisory Boards of Infrascale and Calit2, and Visiting the Committee of the Human Sciences at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, among other professional achievements (MIT).
MIT awarded Greg a B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering. After serving in the United States Military, he continued his studies at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, earning an MBA.
Collective Genius: The Arts and Experience of Leading Innovation indicates that one can believe the answer to innovation in acquiring extraordinary individuals, making prudent investments, or dismantling organizational fortresses. All of these factors may be contributors, and the only way to implement genuine innovation is to take the initiative. This book intends to demonstrate to readers how to implement innovation.
However, it takes a unique combination of abilities to be an innovation leader, talents that can identify and manage the exact solution of the organization’s human resources. Using real-world examples of firms such as Volkswagen, Google, Pfizer, and eBay, as well as numerous non-profit and national government institutions, the authors demonstrate that innovation is not generated by establishing a model for development and requiring people to work towards it. Rather, creativity is achieved by building, fostering, and sustaining an atmosphere that regularly promotes individual and, by extension, collective creativity. This book will not only serve as a source of inspiration but also as a guideline and model for starting and growing a business.
Additionally, Brandeau reinterprets various mantras that circulate in the innovation business, such as “fail quickly.” “I want to succeed rapidly, not fail quickly,” he reveals. To do this, he accepts that you must evaluate a variety of viewpoints. “Those that do not succeed…those are not failures. The only time you fail is when you don’t learn from your experiments.”
