Robert A. Iger is the Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company. When he serves as executive chairman of the board, Mr. Iger is responsible for overseeing the company’s creative initiatives, while delivering the maximum benefit of his leadership, and counsel to the board.
Iger, who served as Disney’s CEO, was credited with transforming the company into one of the world’s most well-respected and successful entertainment conglomerates by emphasizing three key strategic pillars: the creation of the highest quality creative content; the promotion of innovation, and the use of cutting-edge technology; and global expansion.
The acquisitions of Pixar (2006), Marvel (2009), Lucasfilm (2012), and 21st Century Fox (2019) under Mr. Iger’s leadership, as well as the groundbreaking 2016 opening of Disney’s first theme park and resort in Mainland China, Shanghai Disney Resort, and the release of numerous record-breaking films, including Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, Disney’s Frozen and Frozen 2, and the groundbreaking film, The Incredibles 2 under Mr. Iger’s leadership, have all contributed to Mr. Iger, who has a history of embracing new technologies, has made Disney a leader in the entertainment sector by launching Disney+ in November 2019 and ESPN+ in 2018, both of which were huge successes, thanks to the company’s innovative use of direct-to-consumer technology.

Having taken over as CEO of The Walt Disney Company in October 2005, Mr. Iger was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2012. He served as President and CEO from 2000 to 2005. As Chairman of the Disney-owned ABC Group, Mr. Iger became a full member of the Disney senior management team in 1996. In 1999, he was promoted to President of Walt Disney International.
Since then, he has grown and overseen Disney’s foreign presence, creating a plan for its future growth. Overseeing both the broadcast television network and station group and cable television holdings as well as radio and publishing businesses, Mr. Iger led the difficult merger between Capital Cities/ABC and The Walt Disney Company as ABC Group Chairman.
When Mr. Iger worked at ABC, he learned about every fact of the industry, from programming to rights negotiations to corporate affairs, including everything from news to sports to entertainment. In 1974, he began working for ABC.
Bob Iger was named one of TIME’s Business persons of the Year (2019), one of the “World’s Most Powerful People” by Forbes magazine (2018), one of the “Top Gun CEOs” by Forbes (2009), one of Fortune magazine’s “25 Most Powerful People in Business” (2006, 2007), one of MarketWatch CEO of the Year (2006), and “CEO of the Year” by Chief Executive magazine (2006, 2007). Iger was elected to the prestigious Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2012, an honor bestowed upon only the nation’s most accomplished academics, scientists, writers, artists, and civic, corporate, and philanthropic leaders. The Academy of Arts & Sciences is one of the nation’s most distinguished honorary societies.
The New York Times best-selling book “The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of The Walt Disney Company” is written by Mr. Iger and released in 2019.
