Speaker Bio

Ana Corrales works for Google as the Vice President of the Google Store, Group – wide, and Supply Chain. She previously worked as the chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Nest, an Alphabet company, before joining Google. In her current position, she is responsible for the overall operations and financial management of all Nest-branded products, including hardware, software, and cloud services.

She has been named by Forbes as one of the 50 Most Influential Latinas in Business, by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Most Influential Women in the Bay Area, and by the National Diversity Council as one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology.

Ana Corrales was a pioneer in her field, and she attributes this to her father. When she was ten years old, he educated her how to use Microsoft Word on a DOS system. She believes this to be her first experience with a “programming language.” Corrales began coding when she was 12 years old, while attending a summer programme.

Because she knew someone who was a computer programmer, he showed her how to utilise the HTML code language to establish her own webpage and email address, which she now uses. Ms. Corrales described herself as “one of those crazy students in school who would stay during in recess and go to the library.”

She also said she “read a lot” and “learned a lot.” She also stated that she has always been a “math nerd,” and that she enjoyed “problem solving and considering different approaches to tackling problems.” “She used to spend a lot of time thinking about how she might break into the system and make things better,” she recalls from her early years. This influenced her decision to pursue a career in computer science.

Corrales grew up in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose. The energy business is her father’s field of expertise as an engineer, businesswoman, and innovator. Her mother holds a doctorate in botany and has previously served as the Dean of La Universidad de Costa Rica as well as the Minister of Science and Technology in the country.

Corrales relocated to the United States to study economics at the University of Washington, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the subject. She went on to Stanford University, where she earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Corrales is responsible for developing of Google hardware and Nest products, as well as the management of Google’s first-party retail channel, the Google Store, within the company.

Corrales formerly worked at Nest as the company’s chief operational officer and chief financial officer.

Cisco Systems appointed her as Senior Director of Product Operations, where she was responsible for all Cisco-branded products. Corrales was a co-founder of SunModular, a start-up solar company that was established in 2006. In 2010, Corrales decided to sell the company.

Besides serving on the board members for Watermark, a women’s leadership organisation, Corrales also serves as an advisor to Roli, a firm that develops music technology. Corrales believes that girls should be educated in STEM fields. Programa Escuela, a volunteer programme that allows Cisco employee to teach elementary-level pupils about technology, was one of the ways she gave mentorship while at the company. Ms. Corrales serves as a member of the Women@Google board of directors and as the executive sponsor of HOLA, Google’s Latino Employee Resource Group.
