Alex Morgan is a world-reknown soccer player, olympic gold medalist, and motivational speaker. The United States soccer player Alexandra Patricia Morgan Carrasco (born July 2, 1989) is a gold medalist at the Olympics and a FIFA Women’s World Cup champion. She plays as a striker for the Orlando Pride of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and for the United States women’s national soccer team. She was born in Los Angeles, California. Since 2018, she has served as co-captain of the United States women’s national team with Carli Lloyd and Megan Rapinoe.
Morgan was born in Diamond Bar, California, and reared in the neighboring town of Diamond Bar as a young child. She graduated from Diamond Bar High School, where she was named to the all-league team three times and was league MVP twice. A member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state teams, she played club soccer for Cypress Elite and represented the United States in the Olympics. For four years, Morgan Morgan attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she competed for the California Golden Bears between 2007 and 2010. She was chosen to the first team of the NCAA All-Americans as a junior and senior, and she helped lead the Golden Bears to the 2010 NCAA College Cup.
Morgan was selected by the Western New York Flash in the first round of the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer Draft. In her debut season, she played a key role in the Flash’s WPS Championship victory. Morgan joined the Seattle Sounders Women’s W-League when the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) discontinued operations in 2012. She returned to the Flash for the 2013 season, and she scored the game-winning goal in the WPS Championship game against the Chicago Fire.
Morgan was signed by the Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2013 and helped the club win the NWSL Shield. For the month of August, she was voted NWSL Player of the Month, and she was a finalist for the NWSL MVP Award. Morgan was loaned out to Olympique Lyonnais of France in 2014, where she contributed to the team’s victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. As a result of her performance, she was voted the tournament’s Best Young Player.
During the three FIFA Women’s World Cups held in 2011-15 and 2019 respectively, Morgan has represented the United States. She had a key role in the United States’ victory in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and she was chosen to the tournament’s All-Star squad. Aside from that, she was a member of the United States team that earned a gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Morgan has a total of 107 international goals to his name and has been capped a total of 171 times. She is the youngest player in the history of the United States women’s national team to score 20 goals. She also has the distinction of being the sixth-highest scoring American woman in the history of international soccer.
Morgan is one of the most marketable female soccer players in the world, according to Forbes magazine. Aside from advertising, she has featured on the covers of various periodicals, including Time, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN The Magazine, among others.
