Mary-Frances Winters is a highly-sought keynote speaker and expert covering such topics as diversity and inclusion, leadership, change, workplace culture, and management. She is a best-selling author, consultant, media pundit, and thought-leader who has spoken at many conferences around the world where she gives leaders the skills they need to deal with fast, big changes in society, the workplace, and education.

Mary-Frances Winters is hired to speak at events and conferences where she can give expertise on important global business affairs. She started and ran a consulting company called The Winters Group where she supports clients all over the world in accomplishing their business objectives. The Winters Group works on ethnic and multicultural issues in its research, strategic planning, training, and public speaking.

The Winters Group works with businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations like Eastman Kodak, Xerox Corporation, AT&T, IBM, E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Company, Council on Foundations, United Way, National Center on Education and Economy, Rochester City School District, City of Rochester, and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Before Mary-Frances Winters started The Winters Group in 1984, she worked at Eastman Kodak Company for eleven years as an affirmative action officer and senior market analyst.

She got her bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology from the University of Rochester. She also got a master’s degree in business administration from the William E. Simon Executive Development Program. She was given an honorary doctorate by Roberts Wesleyan College in 1997.

Ms. Winters was named the 1994–1995 Distinguished Minett Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Continuing Education. There, she taught a graduate-level leadership course called “21st Century Leader: Visionary, Inspired, and Spiritually Grounded.”

In 1988, Ms. Winters was named “Minority Business Person of the Year” by the Rochester Minority Enterprise Development Committee.This was one of many awards and accomplishments she had that year. She was in the Marquis book “Who’s Who in American Women” in 1989, and in 1991, the Women’s Council of the Greater Rochester Metro Chamber of Commerce gave her the Athena Award. In 1992, she was one of only five women in the country to get the Women of Enterprise Award from Avon Products, Inc. and the U.S. Small Business Administration. In 1994, the Urban League gave her an award for being an outstanding leader in the community. Ms. Winters was chosen to be the person from Rochester to carry the Olympic torch in 1996. The Phi Delta Kappa Education Fraternity gave Ms. Winters the Research Award in 1996.

Ms. Winters is on the boards of the Greater Rochester Metro Chamber of Commerce, Chase Manhattan Bank of Rochester, and Roberts Wesleyan College, in addition to the University of Rochester’s Board of Trustees. She has been on the boards of several organizations, such as the Rochester Area Foundation, United Way, McCurdy & Co., Inc., McQuaid Jesuit High School, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of the Rochester Area, and the Girl Scouts of the USA National Board of Directors. She belongs to the National Speakers Association as well.

She used to be Head of the Greater Rochester Women’s Fund Advisory Committee and President of the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc., and the Black Business Association of Rochester. Ms. Winters was the general campaign chair for the United Way/Red Cross Campaign in 1994.

She often writes about diversity and education for the editorial page of the local newspaper. She has written monographs about “Philanthropy Among People of Color” for the Council of Foundations in Washington, D.C., and been featured in the newsletter of the International Personnel Management Association.
