Speaker Bio

Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, better known by his stage name Jon Stewart, is an American comedian, writer, producer, director, actor, media critic, and former television host. He is best known for his work as host of The Daily Show, a satirical news program on Comedy Central that aired from 1999 to 2015. During his time on The Daily Show, Stewart became one of the most prominent and influential figures in the world of political satire, using the platform to comment on a wide range of social and political issues.

Stewart was born on November 28, 1962, in New York City. He grew up in the suburb of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where he attended Lawrence High School. After graduating, he attended The College of William & Mary in Virginia, where he studied psychology and played on the school’s soccer team. After college, Stewart moved back to New York City and began working as a stand-up comedian, performing at various clubs and colleges around the city.

In 1993, Stewart landed his first television gig as a writer and performer on the short-lived talk show The Jon Stewart Show, which aired on MTV. The show was cancelled after only one season, but it helped to establish Stewart as a rising star in the world of comedy. In 1999, Stewart was chosen to succeed Craig Kilborn as the host of The Daily Show, which had been on the air since 1996.

Under Stewart’s guidance, The Daily Show became one of the most popular and influential programs on television, earning widespread critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. Stewart’s clever and irreverent approach to political satire struck a chord with audiences, and he quickly became one of the most trusted and respected voices in the media.

In addition to hosting The Daily Show, Stewart also wrote and directed several feature films, including the political satire Rosewater (2014) and the buddy comedy The Nightly Show (2015). He has also written several books, including Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race (2010) and America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction (2004), both of which became bestsellers.

Throughout his career, Stewart has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades for his work in comedy and media. He has won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards, and has been nominated for several others. In 2010, he was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, and in 2013, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Despite his success, Stewart has remained humble and grounded, using his platform to speak out on issues he cares about and to give voice to those who may not have one. He has been an outspoken advocate for progressive causes such as civil rights, environmentalism, and animal welfare, and has donated his time and resources to a number of charitable organizations.

In 2015, Stewart announced that he would be stepping down as host of The Daily Show after 16 years on the air. While his departure was met with sadness by his fans and colleagues, Stewart has left a lasting legacy as one of the greatest comedians and political commentators of his generation.

In addition to his work as a comedian and television host, Jon Stewart is also a highly sought-after public speaker. With his quick wit, charisma, and unique perspective on current events, Stewart has the ability to engage and entertain audiences of all sizes. He has delivered keynote speeches at a variety of events, including the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, and the annual convention of the Human Rights Campaign.

Stewart’s public speaking appearances often feature his signature blend of humor and sincerity, as he addresses a wide range of issues with wit and intelligence. Whether he is discussing politics, social justice, or the state of the media, Stewart consistently delivers thought-provoking and memorable speeches that leave a lasting impression on his listeners.
