Jo Malone is hired to speak at events and conferences where she can give expertise on important global business affairs. She has been referred to as a “English smell maverick” and the developer of some of the world’s most identifiable scents.
While Jo was running her covert skincare business in London, where she began her professional life as a face therapist, she discovered that she was strongly attracted to odors. As soon as news got out that Jo had an intuitive talent to manufacture fragrant objects in her kitchen, it spread like wildfire, and she was fast unable to keep up with the demand for her products.
From these humble beginnings as an artisan, Jo launched her first company, Jo Malone London, which was immediately hit when it was released. Malone received the news that she had breast cancer in 2003, only a few short years earlier. Because of the Estée Lauder Breast Cancer Campaign in New York, she was able to have the very finest treatment that was available to her.
Estée Lauder Companies purchased the company from Jo in 1999, but she continued to serve in her role as Creative Director until 2006. In recognition of her work in the cosmetics sector, Jo received an MBE in 2008.
Even though she knew that her love of smell would never go away, Jo’s newfound passion for cooking led her to experiment with cuisines, flavors, and colors that she had never tried before. This was the case even though she knew that her love of smell would never go away.
After returning to her kitchen, where she had been gleefully blending things by hand, she realized that her senses were urging her to make a smell. At that moment, she asked herself, “Could I do it again?”
Jo decided to follow her gut and get back into the fashion industry since she had always had entrepreneurship, was filled with ideas for new businesses, and had the urge to start a new company.
Five years after leaving Jo Malone London, Jo founded the first Jo Loves boutique on Elizabeth Street in Belgravia. This was the same street where she began her career as a sixteen-year-old florist.
Following her departure from Jo Malone London in November 2011, five years after she left the company, she launched her new brand, Jo Loves, to widespread praise. Integrity, creativity, and forward-thinking are all embodied in Jo Loves, and it encapsulates her insatiable urge to create unique perfumes, pioneer new goods, and create enjoyable experiences.
Jo was recognized in the Queen’s Birthday Honour Roll for June 2018 and presented with a CBE in recognition of her services to the British economy and the GREAT Britain campaign, which honors the competitiveness of British business and innovation in the global arena.
