Dean Emeritus and Grandon Professor at Jefferson College of Population Health, David B. Nash is the Founding Dean of the Jefferson College of Population Health (JCPH). Nearly 30 years on the University’s faculty have come to an end with his 10 years as Dean. JCPH is committed to training the next generation of healthcare leaders. Health Policy and Economics, Applied Health Economics, and Population Intelligence are some of the master’s programmes offered by the college. A doctorate in Population Health Sciences is also available from JCPH.
Internal medicine board-certified physician Dr. Nash is well-known for his work in quality-of-care improvement, physician leadership development and public accountability for outcomes.
His national actions, which have repeatedly been listed to Modern Healthcare’s list of the Most Powerful People in Healthcare, encompass a wide range. Professor of Quality Care Programming at the American Association for Physician Leadership in Tampa, Florida (AAPL), is Dr. Nash, M.D. He is a member of the National Quality Forum Task Force on Population Health and the Joint Commission’s John M. Eisenberg Award Committee.
In addition, he is a founding member of the AAMC-IQ Steering Committee, which is entrusted with integrating quality and safety into medical education at the AAMC level. It has recently been announced that Dr. Nash has been nominated to the PQA’s Executive Research Advisory Council (ERAC).

More than 20 years, he has chaired HC4’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and has been generally regarded as a pioneer in the public reporting of outcomes. Dr. Nash has served as a hospital trustee for the past two decades. ” On the board of Catholic Healthcare Partners (now Mercy Partners) in Cincinnati, OH, he was the first chair of the board committee on Quality and Safety (1998–2008).
On the Main Line Health board, a four-hospital system in the Philadelphia suburbs, where he also chaired the board committee on quality and safety, he served from 2009 to 2017. Former board member of The Geisinger Commonwealth Medical School presently serves on its board (GCSOM). To help seniors have more options when it comes to where they live, he joined the board of the National Investment Center for Senior Housing and Care (NIC) in 2018. Finally, in 2019, he became a member of the Arlington, VA-based AMGA Foundation Board of Directors.
As a board member of Humana, Inc., one of the nation’s largest publicly traded healthcare businesses, he recently finished nearly a decade of service. A large information technology business based in suburban Philadelphia invited him to join its board in 2014. As a member of Arsenal Capital Partners’ New York health care advisory board, he has recently joined Tract Manager, an Arsenal portfolio business, to serve on its board of directors. On the ANI Pharmaceuticals board, a publicly traded generic medication producer based in Baudette, MN, in late 2018 he was elected.
Dr. Nash has a long list of honours and accolades to his name. Among the many honours he’s won are the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy’s highest award (1995), the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Healthcare Heroes Award (1997), and, in 1998, the American College of Physician Executives’ (now AAPL’s) honorary distinguished fellowship. Awarded the Elliot Stone Award for public accountability for health data in 2006, he was honoured by NAHDO with the honour. In 2009, the Wharton Healthcare Alumni Achievement Award was given to Dr. Nash, and in 2012, the Joseph Wharton Social Impact Award was given to him. In 2012, he got the Philadelphia Business Journal award for medical education innovation.
Dr. David Nash’s work is well-known because of his numerous publications, public appearances, and MedPage Today column. Over the course of his career, he has published more than one hundred peer-reviewed articles and edited 25 books, the most recent of which is Population Health: Creating a Culture of Wellness (2nd edition). Annals of Internal Medicine’s first Deputy Editor (1984-1989). American Journal of Medical Quality, P&T, and American Health and Drug Benefits Editor-in-Chief are all currently under his leadership.
Dr. David Nash holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Vassar College (Phi Beta Kappa), a medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and an MBA in health administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Former Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar and Medical Director of a nine-physician faculty group practise in general internal medicine while at Penn. Salus University in Philadelphia, GCSOM, and the University of Rochester have all awarded him honorary doctorates.
He and his wife Esther J. Nash, MD (who has been his wife for about 40 years) reside in Ardmore, Pennsylvania where he practises medicine. They have three adult children. Tennis, jogging, riding, and yoga are among his favorite activities.
