Ash Alexander-Cooper OBE is a former specialist military unit colonel in British Armed Forces, a world-champion athlete, and an internationally acclaimed musician. In 2007, he was honoured with the Order of the British Empire.
During his 22-year military career, Ash accumulated one of the most extensive operational experiences of his generation, having spent 82 months on the front lines, leading some of the world’s most special forces in complex and hostile environments such as the Balkans, the Middle East, and Central Asia, among other places.
Recognizing that businesses today confront challenges that are similar to those he and his colleagues experienced in war, Ash now works with organizations and executives to create the skills, attitudes, and behaviors that will enable them to adapt and win in the future.
As a result of his extensive experience in cross-functional cooperation and knowledge sharing within large, international, and geographically dispersed organizations, Ash is an expert at bringing people together to form resilient, high-performing, and adaptable teams that are based on a strong culture of trust and autonomy. Since leaving government service, Ash has worked with customers on five continents in a variety of industries, including multinational healthcare, mining, energy, banking, and retail. He has also worked as a consultant. Later, he joined Palantir Technologies, a pioneering data analytics company, where he is responsible for creating international strategic relationships.
He previously worked for elite advisors and leadership development firm McChrystal Group, where he founded its European practice. Maintaining an interest in entrepreneurial thinking, as well as providing advice to some innovative start-ups, he also serves on the board of directors of the geopolitical advisory firm Gatehouse Advisory Partners.
Ash has served as a speechwriter and has authored strategic defence and policy statements for the governments of both the United Kingdom and Afghanistan. When Ash worked as a senior special advisor to the Afghan Ministry of Interior, she was in charge of responding to high-profile terrorist incidents between 2011 and 2014.
Among his accomplishments is the development and implementation of the Afghan National Crisis Response Strategy, which is now a part of national policy. Furthermore, he was the driving force behind the learning and development of indigenous troops tasked with the nation’s most essential national security operations.
A constant theme throughout Ash’s life has been the importance of teamwork at its most fundamental level. His international honours and awards include being appointed MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 and OBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2015. He also received the Medal of Honour and Service of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the United States Army Commendation with ‘V’ Device, and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Medal of Honour and Service.
